dreams

I pretty much always tell students, when they write dreams, that what they are doing is thinking in metaphor and not allowing their narrators to engage it in the language.  I am writing a lot of dreams in this (possibly very bad) novel, though.  I’m doing all kinds of things I have previously banned for myself and for students.

Though come to think of it, it has been many years since I encountered dreams in student fiction, and that is so sad to me now that I realize it, as if it means that they are missing even the desire.
